Learning Objectives:
The learning objectives of this course are to educate Insurance Brokers that specialize in Employee Benefit Programs of the Federal Disability Laws that regulate employer benefit practices and offerings. Benefit Brokers need to understand the provisions of ADA and FMLA in order to advise their clients on how to handle benefit offerings correctly and what insurance products are available to offset the risk of disability.  The intent of this course is to provide basic knowledge to the ADA and FMLA legislations by highlighting the following:
  1. History of disability law.
  2. Requirements for employers under American’s with Disability Act specifically in the area of providing health and welfare insurance programs.
  3. Requirements for employers and employees under Family Medical Leave Act specifically in the area of health and welfare program offerings and administration.
  4. Basic knowledge of provisions under FMLA and how they affect health and welfare benefit offerings.
Since Insurance Brokers that are consulting with employer groups regarding risk products and procedures for administering these products it is important for them to have a basic knowledge of provisions of Federal Laws that regulate employment practices that could affect insurance coverage for employees.
